Kevin Penaranda , Junior Healthcare Management major, sat with the Lion’s Pride Newspaper  and talked about his Candidacy in the Student Government Election.

What experience do you have which makes you qualified for the position you’re running for and a better choice than your opponent(s)?

I have experience dealing with concessions and inventory at my job, so I do have a responsibility of knowing the cash flow of what happens during games for the Athletic Department. Planning philanthropy events, dealing with where the money goes, all of our charities, even a fair amount of donations.

Why do you want this position and what/who inspired or motivated you to run?

I want this position because I want to be in the business field and with the experience I have I feel that dealing with the finances of SGU would be a huge step in reaching what kind of career I’m going for.

What do you hope to accomplish and how do you plan to accomplish these goals in your position?

I plan to accomplish that the right amount of money is properly distributed around the activities and etc., that we have planned. To also make sure that there is a sufficient amount of money for the next semester, and finding ways to receive donations to be able to plan bigger things for SGU without worrying about financial issues.

What would your first action in office be, if you are elected?

My first action in office would be to see the budget and see how the money was used in the previous terms to get a better understanding of where the money goes towards. After discussing with the rest of SGU, see where they believe more money needs to be towards and events where we can save money. Planning where the money goes for the early events will help us determine how we should plan for the rest of the year.
